CALLING ALL STARS

SAG-AFTRA
Writers: Boyce Bugliari & Jamie McLaughlin
Casting: Danielle Pretsfelder Demchick, CSA

We are committed to diverse, inclusive, and equitable casting. Please submit qualified performers, without regard to
disability, race, age, national origin, ethnic origin, gender identity, or any other basis prohibited by law unless a
specific requirement is indicated within the breakdown.

[ALLISON] Female. 11-14 years old. Any ethnicity. When on stage, Allison’s a fearless performer with a booming voice.
But when she isn’t singing, her confidence can wane. Personality-wise she’s a middle school version of Monica from
Friends. She’s an uptight, deliberate over-thinker who loves organization and faces every decision by analyzing it from
every angle. While capable of over- thinking and over preparedness, she is likeable and compassionate. Her hyperfocus
and occasional lack of flexibility stems from anxiety, and not a sense of superiority. Like a lot of kids, Allison feels
overscheduled and deals with a daily level of anxiety which can leave her overwhelmed and frustrated. Music has
always been an outlet where she can unleash everything and regain a sense of control. From a young age, Allison has
gravitated to music and dreamt of making a career of it. Now that she is so close to her dream, she is not only feeling
the excitement, but also the pressure. Must be a strong, trained singer with control of their vocal instrument. Ability to
dance, play acoustic guitar and/or other musical instruments a plus. SERIES LEAD.

[SIERRA] Female. 11-14 years old. Any ethnicity. Sticking with our Friends analogy, if Allison is Monica, then Sierra is
our Phoebe. She’s a very positive, free spirit. A quirky rebel with a huge heart. She’s fiercely independent in attitude
and style. She’s offbeat but she’s completely comfortable in her own skin. While Allison is a risk adverse careful
planner, Sierra will dive in headfirst based on nothing more than a vibe. It’s this carefree attitude that makes her such
a gifted singer/songwriter. Sierra loves the creative outlet music allows her and although she may not realize it, it’s
also been the one anchor in her life. Her single father has moved their family around a lot, valuing adventure over
“financial security.” Consistent, long-lasting relationships with friends is not something that she’s experienced. She
seemingly loves moving and discovering new things, but beneath the surface we see that she may be longing to put
down some roots. Must be a strong, trained singer with control of their vocal instrument. Ability to dance, play acoustic
guitar and/or other musical instruments a plus. SERIES LEAD.

Storyline: Calling All Stars is a kid/family series that is part traditional half hour comedy/ part reality singing
competition. This multi cam show tracks the lives of two amazing twelve year old singers on the brink of stardom, who
launch a legitimate online search to find the third member of their Warner Music signed pop band.

Other ANNOUNCEMENTS from DeLisi Creative:

We are offering consulting sessions for actors (private & group):

  • Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced (curated, specialized sessions focusing on where you’re at & where you want to go)
  • “How To” in Los Angeles (for those considering a move to LA; navigating as a actor)
  • “How To” in NYC (for those considering a move to NYC; navigating as a actor)
  • For info, please email delisicreative@gmail.com. Include your name/city, contact info & what you’re interested in!

We’re THRILLED to be partnering w/a phenomenal team to produce micro-budget short films & forming a “collective”… info as follows:

  • Concept similar to theatre companies where actors are a “part of” various shows (films).
  • Cast/crew invest in desired project(s) & are the ones who benefit directly from the experience.
  • Quote from an actress, “I loved the experience of being an actor.. in a legit production.. having lines, IMDb credit, part of a great cast/crew.. I can spend weeks & months submitting online – even auditioning – w/very little return. Or in classes which don’t necessarily translate to actual work. When I became part of this professional, supportive (& fun!) collective – I didn’t have to do all that.. Instead, I loved investing in my own way – like an intensive experience but w/a priceless takeaway. It was AMAZING!! A much needed recharge! I also loved the little things we don’t always get to be a part of – my name on the call sheet, in the credits, down to the ability to take photos & document my experience! Can’t wait for the screening! The experience was a blast! I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
  • Looking for interested actors, writers, crew who want to be part of a new way to create!
  • For info, please email delisicreative@gmail.com. Include your name, contact info, what city you’re in (or could be local to) & what you are interested in doing! Let us know what intrigues you about this sort of collective.

Yours,
Team DeLisi Creative, Debbie DeLisi, Adam DeLisi & Associates

“A therapist and self-help author moves into a building haunted by the ghosts of actors and musicians, and begins a correspondence with a transgender Victorian actress to help with her self-image.”

Hello everyone!

I am currently looking for potential actors and staff members for a 5-10 minute narrative student film; working title The Specter of a Cracked Thespian Egg. I cannot offer payment, being a college student with a stretched budget, but I can offer catering and a patient director!

The roles are as follows:

VIDA PERSEPHONE (Female, Any Age) – A therapist and self-help author having moved into a new residence. Mildly tired and easily unfocused in certain environments, Vida is otherwise compassionate and patient, even with the dead. She hates “fake” people though.

FRANCESCA DENCOURT (Female, Early 20s) – The ghost of a transgender Victorian actress, Francesca is the most level-headed of the three specters, even with her love for excessive theatricality. While she does appreciate the support of her fellow ghosts, she mostly keeps to herself at first, and opens emotionally over the course of the short.
FRANCESCA MUST BE PLAYED BY A TRANS WOMAN, PLEASE.

CALVIN VALENTINO (Male, Early 20s) – The ghost of a 1930s Broadway actor and bootlegger, Calvin is full of bravado and without being obnoxious. Admittedly high-strung and with the general scruffiness of an alley possum, he’s often moving in a scene and tenses up at loud noises. If you know how to dance loosely to a rhythm, that’ll be great, but it’s not mandatory.

REAGAN FLORES (Female or NB, Early 20s) – The ghost of an aspiring rocker from the 1980s, Reagan HATES being underestimated or waved off as an idiot. Despite this frustration and being a restless spirit, she tries to not let death get her down and still practices music in her free time. I’m not looking for an expert musician, but a bit of guitar could help!

TIFANNY CHATZ (Female, Any Age) – You know those overly bubbly real-estate agents that come across as either charming or grating depending on the person? That’s Miss Chatz. She also provides narration for the ghosts’ backstory, often in a more theatrical voice herself.

CREW:

Makeup – I’m looking for someone who feels confident when it comes to ghostly makeup. There won’t be much special effects so pale makeup and dark rings around the eyes are planned for the ghosts.

Lighting – I must admit, I’m not the best at lighting myself, so if possible, someone comfortable with lighting would help so much!

If you’re interested, feel free to e-mail me at rbell18@unm.edu. I plan to film in Late February, so let me know what your schedule is like! Resumés and 8-by-10 portraits also help a ton! A recent draft of the script will be attached to this email, and if it comes across as problematic in any way, please let me know and I WILL revise it.

With all that said, thank you for reading and I hope you have a good week!

KING/QUEEN: What, again? You get on my nerves! I’ll die, yes, I’ll die all right. So what…. What’s new about it? I’ll die in forty, fifty, three hundred years. Or even later. When I want to, when I’ve got the time, when I make up my mind. Meanwhile, let’s get on with affairs of state. (He climbs the steps of the throne) Ouch! My legs! My back! I’ve caught a cold. This palace is so badly heated, full of draughts and gales. What about those broken window panes? Have they replace those tiles on the roof? No one works any more. I shall have to see it myself, but I’ve had other things to do. You can’t count on anyone. (To MARIE who is trying to support him) No, I can manage. (He helps himself up with his scepter, using it as a stick) There’s some use in this scepter yet. (He manages to sit down, painfully, helped after all by MARIE) No, I say, no I can do it. That’s it! At last! This throne’s got very hard! We ought to have it upholstered. And how is my country this morning?
on the roof?

Film Casting in ABQ – Less Acting Experience the Better (Barelas)

Please read carefully. There will be No line memorization (or very little). You will read the lines for the first time right before we roll. Then you would be reading off cue cards for the takes. Rewording of dialogue, if occurring naturally, will be just fine. No rules. Some Improvisation encouraged.

I’m attempting something of an art/experimental film. loosely strung vignettes.

With that said, seeking talent of all adult ages and backgrounds (18-70s), No parts for minors, lots of parts for 40’s to 70s crowd.

Across the board when it comes to “looks” and “types” e.g., Hipsters, Low-Rider aficionados, retiree’s, students, male and female, you get the picture.

Never more than half a day’s work. Everything to be shot “on location” parks, the streets, at some businesses.
I’m a traveling experienced filmmaker who will be in ABQ for another couple to three weeks. I am a crew of one shooting on an iPhone.

If you know of people who have never “acted” but are good story tellers, interesting characters, eccentric, deadpan and droll or even dull, please pass along this CL link. With all due respect, No Actors 😉

ALSO: Anyone wanna be a member of the “One Man Crew”? (behind the camera. NO experience required). I worked on pictures for 20 years. I know how movies are made. Tag along as my assistant and I’ll teach you all I know.

There is no pay.

Logline
In the 1990s, a pair of unstable teenage girls run away from their troubled homes in search of love and excitement and freedom and find much more than they could ever bargain for: each other and themselves.

Casting Breakdown

Phoebe Parker (17)
A poet-at-the-picnic teenager who spent last summer in a mental hospital after her older sister came home to die of AIDS in their bedroom. Heavily medicated, Phoebe wants to break free and see what life is like after a suicide attempt. She can’t seem to shake her madness, being infatuated with Leticia doesn’t help. (ACTOR ATTACHED)

Leticia Velasquez (16)
A feral life-eater, Letty is a forty-three-year-old divorcée in the body of a teenager, and if you did a brain scan, you’d see a scattering of broken- glass memories of her housefire of a childhood. Still, everything’s an adventure for her: sex, juvie, getting high, people; she’s used them all. She’s a kitten in a rainstorm, and you’ll try to save her, but you’re going to get scratched to hell.

Joan Parker (40s)
Phoebe’s mother is an overprotective control-freak – who could blame her? She’s grieving for her eldest daughter, Nichole, and scared to death for her youngest, Phoebe. Divorced, lonely, terrified of all this emotion, she wants it all to go away; and then it does, tearing her apart.

Nichole Parker (20s)
Kind of looks like a grackle or a starling at this point; she’s dying of AIDS. Goth before Goth, grunge before grunge, she is/was an intellectual party girl, better suited to Warhol’s Factory or Germany in the 20s, than the 1990s. Absolutely beautiful in the deepest sense of the word.

Chuck (40s)
Joan’s lover is kind of a lunkhead, but he means well (question mark?). He’s probably divorced, too, like Joan (the script doesn’t say), and he’ll play the part or parts Joan asks him too, just so they can go to bed together (he really likes that). He doesn’t belong in her house and he knows it, and all the melodrama is way too much for him.

Don (30-40?)
He’s some skeezy guy that gives Letty a lift when she’s wandering east Central Avenue and brings her back to his pad. He’s that guy. Gets her high, steps out of the shower in nothing but a towel. He’s that guy.

Social Worker (30-40?)
She’s seen it all, but still loves the girls in the system. She’s exhausted and empathetic but doesn’t take care of herself. We don’t see it, but she probably drinks Gallo Paisano Red and smokes generic menthols.

Mrs. Sallow (50s?)
A cartoonishly horrible foster mother, Mrs. Sallow is a drunk and a stumbling user of the system, who probably has a tragic backstory, but it can’t make up for how she treats these kids in her house. She looks like she modeled once for Diane Arbus or Mary Ellen Mark. Have fun!

Dean (17)
A nice enough guy. Dated Phoebe last year, took her to prom. He didn’t mean to be a shit to her, it just happened: he’s seventeen.

Rose (17)
Pretty as cake. She and Dean have no dialogue in the pilot, but figure prominently in later episodes.
